Lakeside Lodge

Mayfield, Kent

A unique lakeside lodge set within a beautiful 50 acre country estate. To the rear of the lodge are fields and to the front is a picturesque lake surrounded by mature trees. There is a rowing boat on the lake which you are free to use.


The deck area is directly over the lake with a table and chairs for enjoying the view or alfresco dining.

Inside you will find a king size bed with egyptian cotton bed linen, bed side lamps, books and magazines. The lodge is equipped with tea and coffee making facilities.

They have also provided an extra space in the barn opposite where you will find a convenient toilet and basin.


The bar area in the barn has a fridge (milk and orange juice provided), a sink, dishwasher, kettle and toaster, cutlery, plates, cups, glasses and a welcome basket with continental breakfast ingredients. 

There is a separate building a short walk away (100 yds) accommodating a shower room and another toilet: towels and toiletries provided.

Guest access

The lodge is surrounded by gardens, woodland and fields - please feel free to enjoy and wander. 

There are also miles of public footpaths direct from the garden.

Fly-fishing on the lake accepted, just bring your fishing license.

The Lakeside Lodge is set within a 50 acre estate surrounded by stunning countryside and reached by a half mile drive from the main street. There are three other properties on the estate along with woodland, fields and lakes. 
For any supplies you may need, a small corner shop can be found in the village of Mayfield 1.5 miles away and is open until 10pm daily.
Mayfield is a pretty and bustling ancient village with tea rooms, butchers, delicatessen, wine shop, clothes shops, gift shops and a magnificent medieval pub. 


Crowborough 15 minutes away has a Waitrose and Tesco. 
They are 18 minutes from Tunbridge wells, 30 minutes to Glyndebourne and 20 minutes from Buxted Park. 
A day out in London or Brighton is easy. Guests have also visited local wineries (inc. Chapel Down), gardens (inc. Batemans, Sissinghurst and Sarah Raven's garden and courses) and castles (Bodiam, Leeds).


They provide an extensive list of local attractions including gardens and national trust properties, farms and zoos, beaches, historic buildings and castles, golf, adventure parks, boating and cycling.

Getting around

They are in a rural location half a mile from the nearest road, so it is advisable to use your own car to get around. 
There is plenty of parking space. There are local taxi firms but please be aware that early booking is recommended (i.e. before you arrive!)
Transport links are easily accessible with the nearest mainline railway station at Wadhurst (6.5 miles, Charing Cross one hour)) together with the A22 and A26 providing fast connections to the M25 link to central London, Gatwick (30 miles) and Heathrow (65 miles).
If you are looking for country walks then we are ideally situated with miles of public footpaths on our doorstep.
Although Mayfield village is only 1.5 miles to walk this is an uphill walk and there are very few footpaths or street lights.

Other things to note

This is essentially a 'glamping' experience as the lodge is located on the edge of a lake next to a field in the countryside, so please bring warm clothing and appropriate footwear. 

There are sometimes sheep on the field behind the lodge, which is fenced.

They have no mobile signal. There is WiFi.

Heating in the lodge is provided by an electric heater.
The barn has underfloor heating.
There is no heating in the shower room, but the room gets warm once the hot water has run for a while.
